Eight top Christmas cocktails

Eight top Christmas cocktails

There are loads of ways you can make your Christmas party special and getting creative with the cocktails is one of them. Here are eight of our favourite Christmas cocktails to give you some inspiration for your drinks menu.

Mulled Wine

A Christmas party wouldn’t be the same without mulled wine. Our version is a traditional mix of spices that create a warming, nostalgic drink, plus the lemon peel lifts the flavour and gives it some zing. This is a great cocktail to serve as your guests arrive at your party to welcome them in from the cold. Dissolve the sugar in half a bottle of the wine, then add the other ingredients and simmer for about 20 mins to make a syrupy base. Add the remaining wine and warm through for five mins before serving.

Ingredients:

2 bottles red wine

1 cinnamon stick

Peel of 2 satsumas/clementines

Peel of 1 lemon

200g sugar

5 cloves

1 star anise

Lemon and satsuma/clementine peel to garnish

Spicy Cider

Another classic winter warmer, this spicy cocktail can be made with pear or apple cider. Adding juice means there’s no need to use refined sugar and it also dilutes the alcohol content enough to give you the scope to add rum without making the cocktail too strong. Simply add all the ingredients together and warm through.

Ingredients:

1 litre apple/pear cider

1 litre apple/pear juice

1 cinnamon stick

Pinch nutmeg

100ml spiced rum

Thinly sliced apple to garnish

Gingerbread Prosecco

An unusual, but delicious and truly festive twist on a Prosecco cocktail. The lime gives the drink a real kick and the ginger adds warming notes. Fill the bottom of a champagne flute with the first three ingredients, then top it up with Prosecco and very gently stir.

Ingredients:

25ml ginger syrup

25ml ginger wine/beer

Squeeze of fresh lime

Prosecco

Peppermint Martini

When served in a chilled Martini glass and garnished with a candy cane, this fresh-tasting Christmas cocktail not only tastes the part, but looks the part, too. Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and give a good shake before serving.

Ingredients:

75ml gin

25ml dry Vermouth

1tsp peppermint liqueur

Crushed ice

Snowball

The snowball is making a comeback! This traditional Christmas cocktail is rich and creamy and oozes nostalgia. Add the cognac and Advocat to a glass and top up with the lemonade, garnish with a retro glace cherries.

Ingredients:

100ml Advocat

150ml lemonade

25ml cognac

Squeeze of lime

Cranberry Vodka Crush

Christmas party menus can get a little heavy with all the rich food and indulgent drinks, so this light and fresh cocktail is a great way to refresh the palette. Mix all the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker with a generous handful of crushed ice and serve in a Martini glass with a sprig of fresh cranberries to garnish.

Ingredients:

25ml vodka

25ml Cointreuax

Orange and cranberry juice mix

Squeeze of lime

Salted Caramel and Rum Hot Choc

These are great served towards the end of the night when your guests might be in need of a little pick-them-up. Warm all of the ingredients together until the sauce and chocolate completely dissolve, then serve in a comforting mug with whipped cream on top. And perhaps mini marshmallows if you’re feeling decadent.

Ingredients:

250ml whole milk

50ml dark rum

3tbsp caramel sauce

50g chopped dark chocolate

Wintery Whiskey Sour

Adding a dash of orange juice to this traditional whiskey sour cocktail recipe gives it a Christmassy twist. Mix ingredients then serve in a sturdy tumbler over ice.

Ingredients:

50ml bourbon

50ml fresh orange juice

Squeeze lemon juice

1tsp sugar syrup

Slice of orange to garnish
