Seven ways to take your Christmas party from good to great

Seven ways to take your Christmas party from good to great

Whether you’re holding a Disney-themed extravaganza or a sophisticated cocktail party, getting your guests to dress up immediately creates a bond between your party goers and levels the usual social hierarchy of the office. From ‘bad taste Christmas jumpers’ to ‘a touch of sparkle’, there will be a fancy dress theme to suit your function.

Get all of your colleagues to suggest three songs for the evening. It’s a great way to make people feel involved in the party and also helps encourage people onto the dancefloor. If you’re holding a more traditional event you could consider hiring a pianist to play Christmas carols or a string quartet to play instrumental versions of popular festive tunes.

Christmas is the one time of year when it’s impossible to go over the top, so think big in terms of entertainment. A troop of carolling Father Christmases, a Santa’s grotto photo booth, reindeer grazing in the venue’s outside space… the sky’s the limit! Maintaining an element of surprise in your choice of entertainment is key to its success. It helps create a wow factor and gets the conversation flowing from the off. (Just be sure to check any restrictions your venue may have before you book.)

Christmas is a time when people indulge. Make sure your menu reflects this and splash out on all the extras. It’s likely that your guests will be enjoying a full roast dinner come Christmas Day, so make sure there are other options available. Our Christmas menus include six other options including a Taleggio cheese, walnut and spinach strudel served with charred artichoke, asparagus and heritage tomato compote and a Slow-cooked rump of Cornish lamb with sun-blushed tomato and borlotti bean cassoulet, seasonal cabbage and rosemary brioche.

Your Christmas party guests will really appreciate you putting a bit of effort into your drinks menu. We’ve come up with some delicious Christmas cocktail recipes for you from an indulgent, classic Snowball to a refreshing Peppermint Martini. As well as cocktails, a sweet treat of a hot chocolate later on in the evening will give guests a second wind and keep energy levels high until carriages.

Work Christmas parties are such a great opportunity to help colleagues bond and create memories for years to come. Getting staff to play games can help kick start this process, you just need to make sure you strike the right balance between fun and not pushing people too far out of their comfort zones.

We all know it’s the giving, not the receiving that counts. But let’s be honest - everyone loves to get presents at Christmas. Whether you organise a secret Santa or find some budget to buy gifts out of the party pot, it’s a lovely idea to make sure all of your guests leave with something by which to remember the night.
